Get Ready, Rochester, For Fire and Ice
The sixth annual Fire & Ice Festival starts Friday. Here's what you need to know.
Snow, snow and more snow will cover part of downtown Rochester this week as the town gets ready for the annual Fire & Ice Festival.
The DDA, along with the city of Rochester and Oakland County, are sponsoring the sixth-annual outdoor festival Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Here's what you need to know right now about the festivities.
- The fireworks: Shows are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights. The best viewing spot is at the corner of Water and Third streets downtown.
- Ice scultpures: About 40 ice-carved works of art are set to arrive downtown on Friday morning. They will be placed in front of downtown businesses. Get your cameras ready!Â
- Snow-tubing: Third Street will be covered in snow and ready for tubing. There will be three lanes this year; there will also be double tubes for young kids and adults to ride together.
- Other attractions:Â There will be dog-sled rides and a cross-country ski trail, and an ice-skating rink will be constructed in the field near Third and Water streets.Â
- Help RAYA: The Rochester Area Youth Assitance organization invites festivalgoers to spaghetti dinners at the Rochester Fire Department from 5-8 p.m. Friday and 4-8 p.m. Saturday. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children. A pancake breakfast from 9-12:30 on Sunday morning also benefits RAYA. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children.Â
