Meet Brady Bland, the First Baby of 2013 at Rochester's Crittenton

There's a fun coincidence in this New Year's Day birth.

The story of Rochester's first baby of 2013 begins, really, in 1986. That's when little Brady Bland's mom, Stephanie Schreiber-Bland, was born at Crittenton Hospital Medical Center.

On that day, Stephanie was in good hands, under the care of neonatologist K.V.S. Rao in the Rochester Hills hospital.

Fast-forward 27 years: Jan. 1, 2013. Stephanie went into labor early that morning and her first baby, Brady Daniel, was born at Crittenton at 7:56 p.m. Brady weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces and was 21 and a half inches long. He was the first baby born in 2013 at Crittenton.

Like his mother, Brady coincidentally ended up in Rao's care. Because the Crittenton staff is like family to Stephanie — her mom, Debbie Schreiber, has been a nurse at the hospital for 22 years — Rao was well aware of the connection between mother and son.

Stephanie and Brady, along with proud dad and husband, Brandon, were set to be released from the hospital and return to their Oxford home on Friday.
