Peaceful Protests Scheduled For Downtown Rochester Thursday
Some traffic will be detoured due to the protests, beginning around 4 p.m., on both University and Main Street, police said.

ROCHESTER, MI — The Rochester Police Department announced Wednesday it is aware of two peaceful protests scheduled for Thursday and has been working with organizers and other police agencies to ensure the safety of everyone involved.
Police said the first protest will begin around 2:30 p.m. in the Municipal Park. The second with start at Rochester High School around 4 p.m., with protesters planning to march down University toward downtown. The two groups will meet at Pine Street and continue their protest, police said.
"The Rochester Police Department and the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office are committed to participate and provide the necessary assistance to make sure these events are safe for all who attend and those who travel in and around downtown," the Rochester Police Department said in a news release.

Similar protests have taken place around the county, as well as protests that have not been deemed peaceful. The protests have stemmed from issues with police brutality following the death of George Floyd, a black man who died last week while in custody of Minneapolis police.
