Political Blogger Says Unlimited Giving Threatens Democracy

Fred Hoffman blogs on Patch and so should you.

Fred Hoffman has served as a national delegate, he cries every time he watches It's a Wonderful Life and he blogs on Patch.

Many interesting people blog on Patch and we want to introduce you to some of them. Each week we will highlight a new Patch blogger.

Today, Hoffman answers our questions.

Where did you grow up?

Grew up in Dearborn. Attended St Clement Grade School, St Alphonsus HS, HFCC and UM-Dearborn.

What are your hobbies?

Enjoy traveling, reading and writing, following the Tigers, politics and ancestry study. Also collect Hummel figurines and political campaign buttons.

Favorite book?

Love John Grisham's novels and political biographies

Favorite movie?

I cry every time I see It's a Wonderful Life. Also love The Lion King and Unconditional Love.

How did you get involved in politics?

Been in my DNA ever since I marched around the block with a Kennedy sign in 1960. Got very engaged in Jack O'Reilly Sr's campaigns while still a teenager - and just got more involved as time went on. Served twice as a national delegate, 1980 (Carter) and 2012 (Obama).

If you could change one thing politically for this country, what would it be?

Campaign finance reform - we need more transparency and balance. Spending is way out of hand. But the unlimited giving threatens our democracy.
