Residents Abuzz Over Obama Helicopters Sightings

Metro Detroiters were all abuzz over President Obama’s large, loud helicopter-cade that flew from Metro Airport to Orion Township and back Friday afternoon.

Obama arrived at the GM Orion Township assembly plant about 12:50 p.m. in Marine One accompanied by four other large military helicopters, all part of Marine Helicopter Squadron One.

Local residents have been wondering why all the large helicopters flying over their homes much of this week. Apparently, the flights were trial runs for with South Korean President Myung-bak – Obama’s second trip to Michigan since Labor Day.

Following are some of the comments people around the area were making on Twitter and Facebook during Obama’s visit:

@Just_me_Kristy from Downriver: For the past 4 days, military helicopters have been flying over the house. Twice today. I have no clue why. / I wonder if the helicopters have been around because Obama is in Michigan today? / Dang! Make that 3 times today for the military helicopters. Shakes the house.

Kelly Salazar Zapczynski posted a photo of one of the presidential helicopters on Rochester Patch’s Facebook page with the caption: “Right place at the right time.”

Lori Sandefur Moore responded to Dearborn Patch’s question on Facebook asking if anyone saw the helicopters: “Flew over my house, it was pretty low and loud! Very cool!”

Lynn Voltz Shaw also responded to Dearborn Patch: “I saw it and wondered why there were military helicopters flying over Dearborn! Now I know.”

David Shephardson, Detroit News Washington, DC, bureau chief, gave this report on Twitter: President Obama left DTW for Washington at 3:44 pm after departing Orion plant at 3:10 pm. Nice trip by helicopter.
