Rochester Hills One Of America's Best Cities

A new ranking of America's top cities placed Rochester Hills near the top. Find out where it ranked.

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI. — Rochester Hills is the 14th best place to live in the United States. That’s the finding of a report conducted by 24/7 Wall St, a financial news and opinion website.

The top 50 best cities in America were ranked with Carmel, Indiana taking the top spot. Three cities in Colorado — Centennial, Arvada and Highlands Ranch — were also in the top five with Johns Creek, Ga. ranked fourth.

24/7 Wall St. considered about 590 with populations of more than 65,000 in 2016. Crime, demography, economy, education, environment, health, housing, infrastructure, and leisure were all used as factors in the rankings by the publication.

As for Rochester Hills, 73,418 were living in the city as of 2016, 24/7 Wall St. reports. The median home value is $294,200 while the poverty rate is in the bottom 10 percent of the country and the number of people with at least a bachelor’s degree is in the top 10 percent.

“One of the largest indicators of quality of life is education. High school students in Rochester Hills test better than students in any city in MIchigan other than Troy or Ann Arbor, and 57.3% of adults have at least a bachelor’s degree — far more than the 31.3% of adults nationwide.”
“Rochester HIlls is also largely devoid of the violent crime that plagues much of the Detroit metro area. There were 72 violent crimes reported per 100,000 residents in 2016, a fraction of the national violent crime rate of 386 incidents reported per 100,000 Americans.”
“While in neighboring Detroit crime and economic decline have reduced the value of a typical home from $91,700 in 2006 to $43,500 today, homes in Rochester Hills have continued to appreciate.
