Rochester Hills Won't Seek Bids for Trash-Hauling Services

City will stick with Republic Services, despite reduced price proposed by competing contractor.

Rochester Hills will not allow open bidding on its next trash-hauling contract, according to the Detroit Free Press.

The city currently contracts through Republic Services, but competitor Rizzo Environmental Services sent a letter to the City Council and Mayor Bryan Barnett offering to cut 22 percent from the city's trash expenses, the report indicated.

City Council President Greg Hooper said the city is happy with Republic and has no plans to change, but will seek a better rate from its current contractor, the Free Press reported.

Rochester Hills residents currently pay $51.54 per quarter—or roughly $17 per month—for weekly pickups by Republic Services, compared with the $13.31 per month per household Rizzo is proposing.

According to the city website, Republic offers unlimited trash pickups, monthly bulk pickup, seasonal yard waste pickup, recycling and a complimentary 95-gallon trash cart and 65-gallon recycling cart.
