Sheriff's Dispatchers Face Influx of Storm-Related Calls

The high winds from Sunday night's storms that have left more than 40,000 in Oakland County without power prompted a busy night for Oakland County Sheriff's dispatchers.

Dispatchers fielded 551 calls to Oakland County Sheriff's dispatchers between 8 p.m. Sunday and 6 a.m. Monday, according to Sheriff's officials. 

According to the department, there were 331 calls dispatched by Sheriff's units in the 15 communities patrolled by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, with 45 calls originating from Rochester Hills. The department also took 220 fire department dispatches during that same time, with 11 from Rochester Hills.

According to the department, the calls were predominantly road hazards, alarms and reports of downed wires.
