Sunday Hours, Concerts Return to Rochester Hills Public Library

With the start of school and the closing of Art and Apples the Rochester Hills Public Library is once again open for Sunday service between 1-6 p.m.  

“Sundays during the school year are some of our busiest service hours,” said Library Director Christine Lind Hage.  “It is the one day of the week when families like to relax together at Library.”

The Library also offers six Sunday concerts each year, geared toward all ages.  

The first concert will be held at 2 p.m. on Oct. 6 and will feature the Southfield Jazz Orchestra.  The band, under the direction of Saxophonist Eric Rayford, performs big-band jazz style music featuring tunes such as “In the Mood," “Teach Me Tonight” and many more. Local saxophonist George Benson and vocalist Barbara Ware are international jazz artists who are Southfield Jazz Orchestra’s own artists in residence.

The second concert will be at 2 p.m. on Oct. 20 and will feature Steve King and the Dittilies. The Dittilies' repertoire has grown to include music and songs from all eras, and the band is a popular draw throughout Metro Detroit.

Sundays also will allow students to catch up on homework.

“We have librarians on duty in all departments to help people find the materials they need and want,” said Adult Services Manager Rebekah Craft.  “Our librarians can recommend titles on all subjects and are there to help kickstart someone’s research project.”
