There's a Sock For Everyone at Downtown Rochester's Cockeyed Socks

From the kind you wear for working out to the kind you wear for going out, the new Cockeyed Sock Company inside downtown Rochester's South Street Skate Shop has your feet and legs covered. 

Linda Gallaher said the shop, which sells skateboards, shoes and clothing, has always sold socks. But it was a first-time customer who stopped in while visiting from Paris late last year who inspired her to make the socks their own little division of the shop.

"She said she had traveled the world and had never seen any socks like this," said Gallaher, pointing to a display of colorful knee socks by Stance, priced between $10-$14. "She bought hand-fulls and hand-fulls.

"And that's when I realized: people really do love socks."

The Cockeyed Sock Company features socks for adults, youth and babies. They are priced $8 to $50; most are in the $10-$20 range. 

Gallaher guesses they have about 500 pairs of socks in the shop, with about 30 being sold each day; she was expecting a large shipment on Friday morning. 

Cockeyed Sock Company and South Street Skate Shop are located at 410 South Main Street. Hours are 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
