1 Dead, 2 Arrested After Southfield Shooting Thursday: Police

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — One person is dead and two arrested following a Thursday afternoon shooting in Southfield, authorities said.

Southfield police said a 27-year-old Taylor man died at a local hospital after being the victim of a shooting. Two suspects — a 21-year-old Oak Park man and a 21-year-old Detroit man — have been arrested in connection with the crime, authorities said.

Officials said the two men are expected to be arraigned Saturday, but did not say what charges they could face.

Southfield and Oak Park police officers were first called to the area of 9 Mile and Greenfield around 3:15 p.m. Thursday following the report of a shooting, authorities said.

When the officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim and began life-saving efforts, police said. The victim was then transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he died, police said.

The suspect from Oak Park was still at the scene and was arrested, police said. The second suspect was identified during the investigation and was arrested without incident shortly after on 8 Mile, near Greenfield, police said.

A gun belonging to one of the suspects was recovered at the scene of the shooting and a second gun was discovered when police searched a home in Detroit, police said.

The suspects knew the victim and the shooting appears to stem from a previous relationship between the victim's girlfriend and her ex-boyfriend, police said.
