Patch: How long have you been doing business in town?

Giles: Our law firm has been doing business in Oakland County for 40 years. I have been serving Oakland County residents for over 20 years.

Patch: What attracted you to the business you’re in, and how did you get started?

Giles: I have always had a desire to help people. Estate planning was a logical way given my education, training and experience, to help people who wanted to achieve their wishes both during life and upon death.

Patch: If you had to sum up your business mission to a stranger in five words, what would those words be?

Giles: Planning for incapacity and death.

Patch: What’s the biggest challenge or most difficult moment you’ve faced in your job?

Giles: The biggest challenge I face in my job is oftentimes the law itself, which may preclude a client’s wishes from being implemented.

Patch: What’s the most satisfying part of your job?

Giles: The most satisfying part of my job is knowing that I have helped someone implement their planning wishes for both incapacity and death.

Patch: You’re not the only person in this business. How do you distinguish yourself from the others?

Giles: Our business is very personalized and does not rely on “cookie cutter” plans for people, but instead strives to carry out their wishes with customized documents and advice.

Patch: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given when it comes to success?

Giles: Always be honest with yourself and your client.

Patch: What would you say are a few secrets to your success?

Giles: There are two things that have contributed to my success. First, hard work and second, the ability to listen to needs of clients and come up with creative and personalized solutions to meet those needs.
