5 Things to Know this Week: City Budget Hearing, Art Show and More
School board is scheduled to meet, ROMS sings and Detroit athletes get ready for a celebrity softball game.

Here are five things you need to know about this week:
Monday: City Commission meets, budget public hearing
After weeks of planning and discussion, the Royal Oak City Commission is scheduled to hold a public hearing on the city’s proposed budget tonight during the commission’s regular meeting. The proposed city budget calls for a reduction of five patrol officers next year, reducing the number from 70 to 65, as well as other cuts. See the complete agenda here
The City Commission meets on the third floor of City Hall starting at 7:30 p.m after a closed-door collective bargaining-related session.

Wednesday: ROMS Chorale Performance
Students in the sixth-eighth grades of Royal Oak Middle School will continue their Spring Concert Series with a choral performance at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Dondero Auditorium of ROMS. More than 250 vocalists are expected to perform.
Thursday: Board of Education meets
There was no agenda yet available when this story published, but expect discussion on money matters. Dr. Thomas Moline's turn as superintendent is also winding down until he retires later this month.

Saturday: Celebrity Softball Game
The second annual Celebrity Softball Game – with Detroit Lions’ Derrick Williams vs. Detroit Pistons Charlie Villanueva – will be held at Memorial Field. Enjoy face painting, and inflatable moon walk and more.
At 3 p.m. there will be a home run derby with game time at 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $10, kids under 5 are free. Proceeds benefit the Mealz on Dwheelz Foundation and the Charlie Villanueva Foundation. For more information, call 877-707-4216 or go online to: www.celebritysoftballgame.com .
Saturday and Sunday: Clay Glass and Metal Show
More than 120 artists will display and sell their wares while kids express get creative at the Creative Arts Studio tent located at Fifth and Washington Avenue. Restaurants will provide food and beverage along Washington and live music will be on Seventh Street this year, between Washington and Lafayette.
The show, presented by the Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce, will be on Washington between Fourth Street and Lincoln.
Show hours are Saturday 10 a.m.-7 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m-5 p.m. Entertainment runs 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday and noon-5 p.m. on Sunday.
