66-Year-Old Convicted in Royal Oak Robbery, Police Chase

With a long criminal history, Tommie Threatt of Ypsilanti is to be sentenced Sept. 30 for armed robbery, assault and weapons charges.

A 66-year-old Ypsilanti man who was accused of who chased him and another suspect as they raced through a neighborhood was convicted Thursday of multiple charges.

was found guilty in the Nov. 12 incident of armed robbery, fleeing and eluding police, two counts of assault with intent to commit great bodily, felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm in the commission before Oakland County Circuit Judge Rudy Nichols, Royal Oak police said Friday. Threatt remains in the Oakland County Jail until his sentencing scheduled for Sept. 30.

A second suspect in the incident, Willie Kirksey Jr., 50, of Detroit, was found guilty of armed robbery on July 14 and later sentenced to 30-60 years in prison, Lt. Thomas Goad said.

In the Nov. 12 case, police quickly responded to a report of a robbery at Metro PCS, 822 E. 11 Mile Rd., and spotted a red older Cadillac driving in the area with its headlights off. Officers tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped away.

As officers chased the Cadillac, Threatt shot a handgun at police several times as the men raced down 11 Mile, police said. The chase ended when the car driven by Threatt collided with a police car and crashed into a tree on St. Charles Court, in a neighborhood near Whittier Park.  Police shot Kirksey one time as he got out of the car with what appeared to be a weapon. Then-Police Chief Chris Jahnke said two guns were discovered in the car.

The men were arrested and treated at in Royal Oak.

During his Nov. 19 preliminary exam in , a combative and had to be tackled by a Royal Oak detective.
