Detroit Tigers' Tyler Collins' Middle Finger Lights Up Twitter
The outfielder lost a fly ball in the lights and the crowd roared with disapproval. Collins responded by flipping the bird. Now he's sorry.
DETROIT, MI – Detroit Tigers outfielder Tyler Collins lost a fly ball in the lights in Monday’s game against the Oakland Athletics, a blunder that allowed Marcus Semien to reach third base, and Tigers fans flipped some attitude at him with raucous booing.
He responded by flipping them off, at the same time appearing to mouth the words that accompany the obscene hand gesture.

“I’m absolutely embarrassed that happened and I am very sorry,” Collins said in news conference after the Tigers’ 7-3 win over the A’s. “To everybody in Detroit. I just want you guys to understand, I love this team. I want to win. So when we come home and get booed, it’s tough to swallow.
“But like I said, I apologize completely. I’m embarrassed at myself. I know my family is embarrassed and I’m sure these guys are, too. I’m sorry it happened.”

The incident lit up Twitter. Some fans said he should be shipped off to Toledo to play with some other birds, the Mud Hens, the Tigers’ minor league farm team.
If you drop a fly ball, you might want to pick it up. You might not want to flip off your fans either. #TylerCollins pic.twitter.com/Y8D8TcmtL2
