Man Drove 99 MPH Through Royal Oak Construction Zone: MSP

When troopers pulled the driver over, they said they found a loaded handgun as well.

ROYAL OAK, MI — A Florida man has been accused of driving at 99 mph through a construction zone on a Royal Oak highway while workers were present, according to Michigan State Police.

MSP said that troopers assigned to a Michigan Department of Transportation construction zone detail on I-696 in Royal Oak spotted a vehicle traveling at 99 mph in a construction zone with workers present around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Troopers said the posted speed limit in the zone was 45 mph.

When trooper pulled the vehicle over, they said the driver, a 42-year-old Florida man, had in the vehicle's glove box a loaded Taurus PT-111 9mm pistol. The driver did not have a CPL and was arrested and accused of carrying a concealed weapon, police said.
