New Parking Structure Set To Open In Royal Oak
The Center Street structure will add 550 parking spaces.

ROYAL OAK, MI — The city’s parking situation will improve later this month when the seven-story Center Street deck opens. It’s replacing a small surface street lot adjacent to the Royal Oak Post Office and will bring with it 550 spaces, according to a Daily Tribune report.
It will be the city’s fourth parking structure. Rates for the new deck will be the same as other structures:
- Two Hours of free parking before 5 p.m.
- Over 2 Hours is 50 cents per hour, Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- A $5 flat rate after 5 p.m. | Monday through Saturday
Road work around Royal Oak’s new deck was completed last month. It included concrete road patching on a portion of Center Street near the intersection of Second Street, among others.

“We anticipate most of the traffic will be using the entrance on Center Street,” Greg Rassel, head of the Department of Public Services, said. “Currently, the Center Street deck is the most popular deck in the city.”
“There is all new landscaping around the new deck,” said Judy Davids, community engagement specialist for the city. “And that includes trees and rain gardens.”
