Normandy Oaks Task Force To Meet Monday

Park task force will review the revised master plan for the new public park.

The Normandy Oaks Task Force will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19. so that the design team can present the revised master plan for the new public park being built on the site of the former Normandy Oaks Golf Club. During the last task force meeting on Feb. 5, many community members spoke about their desire to keep the park a natural setting to help with flooding in the area, and as an alternative to more soccer fields for Royal Oak. Despite a number of citizens voicing this opinion, the task force resolved unanimously to include at least one soccer field in the design.

Other features the body unanimously approved for the new park include a playground, a parking lot, restrooms, a pavilion, pathways, a habitat area, a fitness station, a medium-sized sledding hill and fitness equipment. A splash pad was considered for the park, but only one task force member supported the water feature, so its inclusion in the next phase of development seems unlikely.

The task force meeting is open to the public and will take place in the Friends Room at the Royal Oak Public Library, at 222 Eleven Mile Road, Downtown Royal Oak. The meeting starts at six. The Feb. 5 meeting adjourned at 9:22 p.m.
