ROHS Students Perform 'Pride and Prejudice' This Weekend
Royal Oak High School Drama Club's performances of the period Jane Austen piece 'will have you rooting for truth and cheering for love.'
What does modern-day reality TV have on Jane Austen? Not much, according to the director of the Royal Oak High School Drama Club's spring production, Pride and Prejudice, which plays this weekend.
“This play tells the timeless tale of Miss Elizabeth Bennet and the haughty Mr. Darcy in an uncommonly surprising love story,” said Nahhat, a Royal Oak native and graduate of Kimball High School and its performing arts program. “Then there are Elizabeth's sisters and single friends, who all have their own unique adventures finding love, and a husband, amid the straight-laced English society of the early 1800s.
“With more twist and turns than an episode of the Bachelorette, Pride and Prejudice will have you rooting for truth and cheering for love in the end.”

Nahhat directs the cast of 25 students and an equal number of supporting crew in a touching stage comedy adapted from Jane Austen's famous novel carefully crafted by playwright Helen Jerome.
The cast and crew kick off a weekend of performances with a preview for students tonight. Senior Alexandra Dulin as Elizabeth Bennet and junior Chris Wagman as Mr. Darcy lead the talented cast.

“I like that he’s a snob and I get to I show off my flair," Wagman says of playing his character.
"I love the tension between all of the characters, especially Darcy and Elizabeth. I love the fact that it shows two worlds coming together through these two very different people, but at the same time they are very much alike."
Also supporting the show are Shannon Kennedy on set design and technical director, and Royal Oak resident Frannie Shepherd Bates, who coaches the cast on dance, dialect and acting.
