ROYAL OAK, MI — A Royal Oak business is hoping Amazon Prime Day can help boost sales as Michigan begins to rise out of the coronavirus pandemic.

Dave and Cara Wesch, owners of Doggy Do Good, a Royal Oak business that makes biodegradable and compostable dog waste bags as well as apparel and accessories, have participated in Prime Day in years past, experiencing a sales increase of 300-400 percent on average. They told Patch this week that they expect a similar boost this year.

"Our partnership with Amazon has allowed us to give back on a much larger scale than sales through our website alone," the couple told Patch in an email Tuesday. " We are very fortunate to donate a portion of those sales to Rescues and Animal Welfare Orgs. all while doing good for the planet."

Amazon announced earlier this month that Prime Day will take place over Monday and Tuesday. The company said it is investing heavily in small businesses around the nation, and Prime members who spend $10 on items sold by eligible small businesses in Amazon’s store will automatically earn a $10 credit to use on Prime Day.

Last year, this move resulted in more than $900 million in sales for small businesses, and with nearly twice as many sellers eligible this year Amazon expects this number to be even greater.

Dave and Cara Wesch said they hope Doggy Do Good can be one of the businesses to find some success out of the deal.

"We started our business in 2016 and have always run sales during Prime day," they said. "Larger customer numbers are coming to Amazon during this window due to the amazing sales - which leads to more of a customer connection for us."
