Royal Oak Police Cuff Special Needs Student Who Assaulted School Officials
The Royal Oak Middle School student was eventually transported to William Beaumont Hospital.

A special needs student was handcuffed and restrained on a gurney by Royal Oak police after the boy assaulted officers, firefighters and officials at Royal Oak Middle School, the Daily Tribune reports.

Police responded to a call from school officials at around 9:45 am. Thursday, Sept. 18, asking for help with a ”combative male student,” the report stated. According to police, the boy was verbally and physically abusive to school officials and his mother before assaulting firefighters who were on hand to take the boy to William Beaumont Hospital, the report added.

Video of the incident taken by the student’s mother has been making the social media rounds since the incident, which is why Royal Oak police released a statement Monday about the case, the report stated.
“Viewing the video without seeing what occurred before or after will leave someone with an incomplete understanding of what occurred,” the police stated, according to the Daily Tribune report.

Police also said the student is involved in an ongoing criminal investigation in separate incident, unrelated to Thursday’s video, the report stated.
