Royal Oak Symphony Orchestra Plans Holiday Concert

ROYAL OAK, MI — The Royal Oak Symphony Orchestra’s annual Holiday Concert will be Friday, Dec. 15. Featured works will include “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty Suite, and harpist Maurice Draughn performing the solo in Joaquin Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez.
The concert starts at 8 p.m. and will be held at Royal Oak Middle School, which is located at 709 N. Washington Ave. Tickets may be purchased on-line or at the door with check or cash. Adult tickets are $15, senior or college student tickets are $12, and age 18 and under free.
Draughn is an experienced harpist and a versatile performer, according to symphony officials. He has appeared as a soloist with several orchestras and in performance with celebrated performers and artists across various genres.

Draughn performs regularly in solo and chamber recitals and as a studio harpist on several recording projects. He began his harp studies at Cass Technical High School in Detroit with Patricia Terry-Ross. He continued his at Wayne State University, the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and the University of Louisville.
