Sex Therapist Abandons Plans To Move Practice To Huntington Woods
A sexual health therapist was not warmly received by his new landlords.

ROYAL OAK, MI – A sexual health therapist who had planned to move his practice to Huntington Woods from Royal Oak says he's put the kibosh on that plan after his new landlord worried that sex offenders would be entering the building. Joe Kort, who runs the Joe Kort and Associates and the Center for Relationships and Sexual Health, says he does not typically treat sex offenders, but could not guarantee that would not happen, according to a media report.
A pediatrician whose practice is in the Huntington Medical Building on Woodward Avenue in Huntington Woods expressed concerns about Kort's practice, according to a report in The Detroit Free Press. The pediatrician was worried parents would see the words "Sexual Health" in the name of Kort's practice, and not want to bring their kids into the medical office building.
Kort had already renovated the office space in Huntington Woods and it wasn't until his sign went up that the name of his practice became a problem. The landlords reportedly told him to either change the name or move, The Free Press reported.

Kort decided to keep his practice in the Woodward Building in Royal Oak. And, he's keeping the name of his practice, he told The Free Press:
"I wanted people to understand sexual health matters," Kort said. "Whether you come from trauma and abuse or pleasure ... the sexual education in our culture is so bad and so nonexistent, I wanted people to understand this is a place they can come and feel safe."
Kort told the newspaper he treats people with a variety of sexual issues, including people who were victims of sexual harassment.
