Viewfinder: Clay, Glass & Metal Show in Royal Oak
More than 140 artists plus musicians and food vendors fill Washington Avenue over the weekend.
Thousands of people visited downtown Royal Oak over the weekend to take in more than 140 artists showing and selling their pottery, jewelry, decorative art, glass objects, metal works and architectural pieces in the .
Food from vendors such as newcomer Redcoat Tavern to those selling snowcones and elephant ears dotted Washington Avenue from Fourth Street to Lincoln Avenue. Music filled the air both days, including performers such as Happy Hour, the Royal Oak High School music department, the Detroit School of Rock & Pop and Illy Mack.
The weekend festival, put on by the , was united by a central concept. “All the art featured at the show is manipulated by heat and comes from the earth," said Shelly Kemp, executive director of the chamber. "Fire and heat make this event unique among art shows as all the art on display is created through this one earth element.”
