AARP Tax Assistance

The AARP tax assistance is done by trained volunteers in partnership with the IRS, and is geared to seniors age 60 and up.  The volunteers are able to do 1040 forms, and amended returns.  The returns will be sent electronically, and you will receive a paper copy to take home.  They are unable to do returns with trust funds, business or farm income; with the exception of Schedule CEZ. They also can offer advice if you are doing your own return and have questions.  You will need to bring:

Photo ID, Social security card(s), birthdates for all dependents; Dependent care provider information (name, employer, ID, and Social Security number); Daycare provider tax identification & total paid for daycare;

Statement from DHS; 2011 Property Tax receipts (for both Winter & Summer); Heating bill containing 2011 heating summary; Current year’s tax forms and preparation booklet; Copy of last year’s income tax return; If renting, proof of rent paid (landlord’s name & address); W-2 forms from each employer; Unemployment compensation statements; SSA-1099 form if you were paid Social Security benefits; All 1099 forms (1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-B, etc.) showing interest and/or dividends and documentation  showing original purchase price of sold assets; 1099-misc.showing any miscellaneous income; 1099-R form if you received a pension or annuity;

All forms indicating federal income tax paid; All receipts or canceled checks if itemizing deductions; Divorce/alimony documents; Bank routing and account numbers for direct deposits.
