Key to Awesomeness: They say you can't fight City Hall. Well, Brendan Owens shows that maybe you don't have to. Maybe you just need to know how to ask to get what you need.

Brendan is a sixth-grader at Saline Middle School and is a Boy Scout. He enjoys French class, and he's participating  in the French Exchange program, through which eight French students and two teachers will visit Saline from Feb. 16-March 7. To welcome them to town, Brendan and others taking French class thought it would be nice to fly France's flag on one of the city's flagpoles downtown. So Brendan penned a letter to City Clerk Diane Hill and asked to be put on the City Council's agenda Jan. 24. At the meeting, Owens went up to the lectern and flawlessly made his case. Council members unanimously approved his request as part of the consent agenda.
