Rubber Duck Race Raises Money for Saline Rotary Projects

Entrants in a rubber duck race at Curtiss Park can enjoy summer fun, win some cash and support community projects.

will be the sight of the 2012 Duckin’ Down the River rubber duck race on Aug. 11.

The race takes place at 3 p.m., starting at the footbridge over the Saline River and ending near the observation deck.

The event is a fundraiser being held by Saline Rotary.

“It’s a fun event that’s popular in Chelsea. We’ve been thinking about it for a few years and this year we’re going to do it,” said Jill Durnen, secretary of Saline Rotary.

Funds raised during the event will support the club’s community projects.

“One of the projects we are supporting this year is the Alley Project,” Durnen said.

The , which is being coordinated by , is being done to help turn the alley between and the old Little Caesar’s Pizza into a decorated courtyard where patrons can enjoy food and beverages outdoors.

Ducks are $10 or three for $20. They can be purchased at , at the Saline Rotary’s Casino Night at Aug. 10, or at the Summer Music Series concerts on Thursday nights in downtown Saline.

At 3 p.m., the rubber ducks will be dumped off the bridge. The owners of the first three ducks over the finish line will receive cash prizes. There will be other prizes for the next six ducks over the finish line and a booby prize for the last duck to cross the line.
