Summerfest features the traditional family-oriented food, music, and fun of Saline’s annual "Picnic in the Park.” Add a juried craft and art show, a trolley tour of Saline’s most intriguing historical sights, a 5K run/walk event, and other special treats. At Summerfest, there is something for everyone.
3. Meteors & S'Mores
- When: Friday, August 9, 2013, 8:00 PM
- Where: Brighton State Recreation Area, 6360 Chilson Road, Howell
- What: Join the University Lowbrow Astronomers for this special astronomy event. With your naked eye you will be able to watch potentially hundreds of meteors flash across the sky as they enter our atmosphere. They are best viewed while laying on your back, so it is advised you bring a lawn chair or a blanket. Sometimes the optimum viewing of the Perseids is well into the evening and even after midnight, so you may want to come prepared for a long night or even arrive a little later than the official start. The park will be offering up S’Mores for everyone to enjoy during their sky-gazing, and members from the club will be setting up some of their telescopes so visitors can also view other planets and stars. Dress accordingly and bring bug spray and roasting sticks if you have them. A Recreation Passport is required for park entrance - meet at Chilson Pond behind the park headquarters. Event will be cancelled in the event of inclement weather, but you can enjoy the Perseids even on your own from July 23rd – August 20th, with the peak occurring on August 12th.
