Water Main Breaks at Liberty School

The leak was expected to be repaired before classes begin Monday.

A water main break at l Sunday night wasn’t expected to disrupt Monday classes.

Workers were expected to repair the break overnight, according to Doug Bacon, facilities director for Saline Area Schools.

By about 10 p.m. Sunday, a steady stream of water was flowing from the ground a few feet from the southwest corner of the school. The repair was not expected to impact nearby Saline residents.

Bacon got the call from at about 8:45 p.m. A man had been walking his dog near the school and saw the water coming from the ground.

“I’m pretty sure we’ve got a broken water main going into the building,” Bacon said Sunday night at Liberty School, as he waited for a repair crew to show up.

Bacon said the water and sewer mains leading to Liberty School were the original ones built with the school in 1959.

“I’m sure they are very corroded,” Bacon said.

The water and sewer mains at Liberty School will be replaced if voters approve the $22 million bond extension proposal Feb. 22.
