The charges result from an extensive investigation by Schuette’s Human Trafficking Unit and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Schuette called human trafficking “modern-day slavery” and said his administration has taken a victim-centered approach to fighting it by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting criminals who take advantage of vulnerable victims and enslave them in sex trafficking or labor through force, fraud or coercion.
