The generous gift comes at a time when donations to the Metro Detroit Red Kettle Campaign are down. In fact, the Salvation Army's goal is to raise $8.4 million dollars by Dec. 31, 2016. So far, they need about $6.3 million dollars to make it happen. Want to give some coins yourself? Look for Red Kettles outside of supermarkets or donate online. Your gift will help big-time, as the Salvation Army's website reports 87 cents of every dollar donated supports Metro Detroit at-risk children, struggling families, vulnerable adults and neighbors impacted by disaster.
