Chromebook Donations Aid Lakeview Students

Students at Jefferson Middle School and Ardmore Elementary are receiving Chromebooks via donations.

ST. CLAIR SHORES — Jefferson Middle School and Ardmore Elementary School students will enjoy new Chromebooks thanks to a pair of recent Lakeview Public Schools donations. Funds were raised by parent groups to purchase 95 Chromebooks at Jefferson and 30 at Ardmore. Donations were recently announced at a school board meeting.

The Parent-Teacher-Student Organization donated the Chromebooks, Google licenses and a charging cart, according to a report in the St. Clair Shores Sentinel. The total donation was for $18,504, the newspaper reported.

“Thankfully, with all of the support of our students and their families, we’re able to raise a lot of money,” Jaclyn Thatcher, co-president of the PTSO with Michelle Lundgren told the newspaper. “We know that this year we really wanted to focus on technology because, just obviously, the world in general is more technology oriented.”

Jefferson Middle School has cookie dough and Entertainment Book fundraisers each year. Thatcher, the mother of an eighth-grader at the school, said that is where the money comes from.

“We raise the money to benefit the kids as much as possible,” she told the Sentinel. “They’re definitely lacking technology because it is so expensive.
“The carts make it easier to move throughout the school, but the goal was to get as many Chromebooks as possible into the school.”
