Shine on the Shores
Lake Shore Public Schools invites all students, families, and community members to our 1st inaugural Shine on the Shores event!

After two years of showing up to support Beaumont Children's Pediatric Advisory Council's Moonbeams for Sweet Dreams at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, we have decided to serve in our backyard this year.
For 1-night only at 7pm on March 17th, our Shorian Nation will stand outside Lakeshore Senior Living (28801 Jefferson Ave, St Clair Shores) and shine a light into the hearts of the residents while sharing this unified, simple message: We are thinking of you.
If you plan on meeting us at Lakeshore Senior Living, please arrive by 6:45pm. The event begins at 7pm and lasts roughly 15 minutes. Dress warm and in Lake Shore gear and bring a flashlight. Thanks to Sgt David Lawson with the United States Air Force, we have flashlight donations available, if needed.
In order to meet proper social distancing guidelines, we are asking that our Shorian Nation stay with their families and spread out across the parking lot. We suggest to park onto St. Gertrude Street and walk to the front of the building. Please line up along either of the circled red areas in the pictures or the main sidewalks.
Joining us will be the Saint Clair Shores Fire Department represented by Matt Chambers and Saint Clair Shores Police Department represented by Jessica Drulia. We are fortunate to also have performances by our own students from our Music Department.
Please use #myLSPSShines when sharing photos from the event. HOSA has pretreated several posters for everyone to share. Feel free to make a poster to bring to this event, too!
BONUS: Using this random picker link at https://tinyurl.com/y39bcul2, a resident will be chosen. Once you have a name, please write a heartfelt card. Include a penny inside for good luck! Bring it with you to Lakeshore Senior Living and place it inside the drop box located at the outside entrance. Note: Several premade cards have already been designed by our own high school National Honor Society students and IAM Senior Haley Peterman!

Positivity Project
Under the guiding principles of our districtwide initiative, the Positivity Project, the #PositivityinAction mindset is our top priority. These past two weeks we focused on the character strengths of CHEERING OTHERS' SUCCESSES and ENTHUSIASM.
People with the character strength of cheering others' successes are happy for others and cheer them on when they find success.
Mr. Popp and Mr. Gaffigan hold the title of Dean of Students at both Lake Shore High School and North Lake High School. They are known for the implementation of disciplinary actions, but they serve in a much larger capacity than this negative generalization.
Building relationships with students and staff is Priority #1. They are the voice behind a supportive phone call, the patience behind a tough conversation that explores the whys of a behavior, and the perspective we all need to experience when sharing important information. In addition, they constantly point out successes, focusing on praise rather than failure. This empathic approach is a proven method to inspire others to see their own potential.
Thank you, Mr. Popp and Mr. Gaffigan, for the scheduled Google Meets, messages on Schoology, and quest for zero disciplinary issues. You are the difference!
People with the character strength of enthusiasm approach life with excitement and energy. They energize people around them.
Our Lake Shore Public Schools' Community Photorama provided an outlet for an outpour of enthusiasm. We genuinely care about our community and wanted to highlight the special places around us with photo opportunities and service projects. What does the Shorian Nation love about our community? March is Reading Month
Anything is possible when you have the right people there to support you.
In recognition of March is Reading Month, we have created a reading schedule featuring heartwarming, witty, and laugh-out-loud Piggie and Elephant series from bestselling author Mo Willems that is perfect for read alouds and early readers alike.
Gerald is careful. Piggie is not. Piggie cannot help smiling. Gerald can. But Gerald and Piggie are best friends. They remind us all about imagination, thinking outside the box, accepting help, the importance of a positive outlook, teamwork, perseverance, flexibility, patience, and friendship. These character strengths are exhibited often by our own Shorian Nation despite distance, windows, or screens.

CELEBRATION
100 Days of School
Let us never know what old age is. Let us know the happiness time brings, not count the year. Of course, counting popcorn kernels is acceptable.
To celebrate 100 Days of School, lower elementary students dressed as if they were 100 years old and demonstrated their newly acquired knowledge of numbers and quantities up to 100. They even discovered how many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop!
Administrators Week
It is Administrators of the Lake Shore Public Schools Week, a celebration held from March 1st-5th to recognize administrators for their invaluable contributions and efforts to our schools.
The Board of Education recognized last week by reading this resolution at the February meeting.
The success of this nation, state, and community directly depends upon the quality of education our youth receives. Thank you, Shorian administrators, for your leadership in creating culture of family, high expectations, accountability and vision. Their leadership skills and abilities directly affect the performance of all employees and the relationship between staff and students, the most important factor for the quality learning.
