Love Letter To Mom: Happy Mother's Day, Gates

ST. CLAIR SHORES, MI — She's the one that loved you first, but mom is much more than that. She’s a friend, a teacher, a counselor, a shoulder to cry on — and maybe one of the toughest women you’ve ever met.

We asked Patch readers in more than 1,000 communities to tell us what their moms mean to them. Nearly 200 people responded, paying tribute not just to moms but sometimes to grandmas, sisters and daughters who deserve recognition for Mother’s Day 2021.

Here’s what Sandra Channell of Saint Clair Shores had to say about mom Gates of Saint Clair Shores :

Dear Mom, When I think about the word "Mom" and what it means to me, a million thoughts fill my heart. First and far most you "Mom" fill my heart with never-ending unconditional love. I love the beautiful stories you share of the day I was born, to the fond memories during my toddler years and up. I love to see and hear the excitement in your voice and see the expressions on your face while you reminisce our beautiful lives together.  You are the beacon of light that guides our family with overflowing kindness, faith, hope, happiness, but most of all love. I am so blessed to have you as my mother and also my best friend. When I look back on our past I cherish feeling your nurturing love and caring ways. I even imagine at times your struggles of raising nine children. You and dad worked very hard to raise us nine. I also cherish the abundance of love you and dad gave while raising us with God as our center. With all of this, our family lovingly continues to grow and has remained very close throughout the years. I treasure all you've taught me. When I have an issue or I'm just feeling down, the sound of your gentle voice and the calm of you holding my hand in your's is so soothing. It fills me with such contentment and love.  As we are growing older together I continue to savor every minute we have. I enjoy helping you when you need it and even when you don't.  Whether making your favorite dessert or dinner, weeding your garden, or giving you that perfect hairdo, being able to spend time with you and help you at times is so fulfilling. It feels so good to be able to return the caring and nurturing love back to you. With the time we are blessed in our remaining years know, I will always be here for you, as you were always there for me.
