Macomb Community College Selects New President

James O. Sawyer IV, Ed.D. was chosen to be Macomb Community College's next president.

MACOMB COUNTY, MI Macomb Community College has a new president. The Board of Trustees announced James O. Sawyer IV, Ed.D. will be the college's next - and so far sixth - president, according to a press release.

“Even with a competitive and qualified candidate pool, Dr. Sawyer was clearly the best choice” James F. Kelly, chair of the Presidential Search Advisory Committee and chair of the college’s board, said in a statement. “His long-standing experience with the college and community, as well as his solid background in business, will ensure a smooth transition with a knowledgeable leader ready to fully leverage Macomb’s strengths while effectively guiding the institution into the future.”

Sawyer has 14 years of experience at Macomb, previously serving as vice provost for Career Programs and dean of Engineering and Advanced Technology, as well as 17 years of business experience in leadership positions in engineering, quality and operations prior to joining the college, according to the press release. Sawyer earned a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from Lawrence Technological University, and master’s in administration and doctorate in educational leadership from Central Michigan University.
