Metro Detroit’s Hottest Summer on Record: First Day of School Forecast

Warm overnight temperatures kept Metro Detroit consistently warm, though a 100-degree day was never recorded.

Metro Detroit is entering the last weeks of what has been the hottest summer on record, according to the National Weather Service. And the next few days will be a reminder of that, with temperatures in the upper 80s.

“Even though we didn’t set records for (number of) 90-degree days, it was just consistently warm through the summer months,” meteorologist Dave Kook told The Detroit News.

That’s despite the fact that a 100-degree day was never recorded this summer, Kook said, noting summer’s highest temperature was 98 degrees, reached on July 23.
