Police Blotter: 2 Burglaries, Thefts Under Investigation

St. Clair Shores police are investigating two burglaries--one residential and one at a business.

In the first case, officers were called to Uncle Ed's Oil Shoppe, 28820 Harper Ave., by a burglar alarm about 9 a.m. Feb. 17. The burglary happened between 6:45 p.m. Feb. 16 to 9 a.m. Feb. 17. Responding officers found a window smashed out and then called the business contact person, who confirmed that cash was stolen from the register. The window had been smashed from the outside as all of the glass was inside the business, according to a report.

In the second case, a resident reported the burglary of his garage in the 22300 block of Gaukler Street Feb. 15. The homeowner reported leaving his house about 10 a.m. Feb. 15 and returning about 4 p.m. to find an exterior door to his garage open. He then discovered a pair of speakers and a rifle missing. The information abut the rifle was entered into a stolen gun database.  The burglar did not enter the home, according to a report.

Truck Stolen from Driveway

St. Clair Shores police are investigating the theft of a Dodge Ram truck from the 32000 block of Thorncrest Street Feb. 19. The truck had been parked in the driveway and the owner discovered it missing early Feb. 19. He reported to officers that he heard a sound overnight about 2:30 a.m. After discovering his vehicle missing, he believes the sound was his truck being driven away. Officers did not find any evidence at the scene and the man reported having both sets of keys, according to a report.

Shoplifter Leaves with $736 in Merchandise

St. Clair Shores police are investigating the theft of nearly $740 worth of goods from Rite Aid on Feb. 21. A man was spotted leaving the store about 1 p.m. with an electric razor without paying for it. An employee reported that several other products were also stolen including other personal hygiene electronics, Crest white strips and other items. The man drove from the store on Harper Avenue in a 1997 Ford pickup truck. Employees provided police with a description of the suspect, a license plate number and a video of the theft from the surveillance system, according to a report.
