Teen Escapee From Juvenile Justice Center Leads Police On Foot Chase Across The Clinton River

Macomb County Sheriff's Office Deputies captured the teen in the Clinton River.

MT. CLEMENS, MI — A teen escapee from the Macomb County Juvenile Justice Center (JJC) led Macomb County Sheriff's Office Deputies on a foot chase across the Clinton River, according to a press release.

The incident happened on Feb. 5 at 1:53 p.m. A number of patrol cars swarmed the JCC after staff alerted Deputies that a 16-year-old boy ran away from the center.

A Clinton Township officer saw the teen running across Dunham and onto Little Rd., according to police. The teen then went down an embankment alongside the Clinton River and when Deputies arrived, the teen had crossed a partially iced portion of the river and was in the water, according to police. Deputies threw the teen a life ring and pulled him to safety.

An ambulance took the teen to McLaren Hospital for treatment. He is back in the custody of the Juvenile Justice Center.

The Sheriff’s Office Youth Bureau will be 'submitting a juvenile petition on the escape,' according to the press release.
