What An Arm! Lake Shore Sophomore Endures

Sarah Ratledge pitched 34 innings in less than 24 hours. No big deal, says St. Clair Shores pitcher who has been throwing since she was 9.

(Posted June 16, 2015) ST. CLAIR SHORES, MI — Lake Shore High School sophomore pitcher Sarah Ratledge has a strong arm – a really, really strong arm.

She pitched 34 innings in less than 24 hours during a tournament in Ann Arbor over Memorial Day weekend, MLive.com reports. She helped the team advance to the finals of the tournament, including beating the state’s top-ranked team and helping Lake Shore reach the finals.

Ratledge has been pitching since she was 9. She took a 15-4 record, 2.64 ERA and 158 strikeouts in 106 innings into the state tournament.

“I’ve always loved pitching – it’s what I enjoy,” she told MLive of her pitching marathon. “It wasn’t a big deal.”

Ratledge has been pitching since she was 9 and playing softball since she was 7, when she began competing against boys in tee-ball. For the past five years, she’s been to the World Series for her age division many times.
