Funds to Support Breast Care Services at Beaumont Trenton

Drs. Harris, Birkhill, Wang, Songe & Assoc., PC. and Karen Colina Wilson Smithbauer held the Women’s Health Care Classic (WHCC) on Monday, June 10. The event raised more than $355,000 to benefit women’s breast care programs and services at Beaumont hospitals in Dearborn, Taylor, Trenton and Wayne.

Participants included 100 women golfers at Dearborn County Club and 116 men and women golfers at TPC Michigan. In addition to golf, guests enjoyed breakfast and lunch, cocktails, a strolling dinner, an awards program and bid on 47 silent auction packages. The auction raised nearly $9,000 to add to the success of the event.

Proceeds from the 2018 WHCC enabled the Beaumont Breast Care Center in Dearborn to become the first facility in the nation to install an Invenia Automated Breast Ultrasound (ABUS) unit. It is an alternative to other supplemental screening options for women with dense breast tissue and is the only FDA-approved ultrasound for breast cancer screening. Approximately 40 percent of women in the U.S. have dense breasts, which are identified by routine screening mammograms.

Funds raised from this year’s event will continue to support Beaumont’s Comprehensive Breast Care Programs including nurse navigators at Dearborn and Trenton and also facility expansion and technology upgrades at the Wayne campus.
