Chemical Plant Fire Prompts Evacuations In Southeast Wayne County
A fire at the RJ Marshall Company in Rockwood has caused some evacuations as well as some shelter in place orders in Wayne County.
WAYNE COUNTY, MI — A shelter in place order has been issued in parts of Wayne County due to a fire at a chemical plant in Rockwood, officials said Wednesday.
According to Monroe County Emergency Management, authorities are asking residents to avoid the area south of Woodruff Road, east of I-75, north of the Huron River and west of Jefferson Road in Wayne County due to a fire at the RJ Marshall Company.

The plant is located at 21220 Huron River Dr. in Rockwood. The company supplies industrial raw materials and flame retardant solutions, according to its website.

The fire began around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to The News Herald. The outlet reported that some residents east of the facility were immediately told to evacuate, while hours later additional residents in the area were told to evacuate.
The Rockwood Community Center is available to residents who a place to go, according to The News Herald.
