Body Of 2nd Missing Detroit River Boater Recovered
The body of Stephen Rooney, a priest at St. Joseph's Church in Trenton, was found Thursday, according to reports.
GROSSE ILE TWP., MI — The body of a missing boater who had been missing in the Detroit River since Sunday after the boat he was riding capsized has been recovered.
The body of Stephen Rooney, a 66-year-old priest at St. Joseph's Church in Trenton, was located by a fishing boat Thursday about a mile off Stony Point, ClickOnDetroit reported. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office took custody of the body and the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office will handle the autopsy, ClickOnDetroit reported.
Rooney was one of two men who went missing in the river after the boat they were on, a 39-foot, 2017 Nor-Tech Center Console, capsized around 7:30 p.m. Sunday. WXYZ reported that the body of 52-year-old Robert Chiles, of Grosse Ile, was found in the Detroit River on Tuesday night.

Authorities searched for the bodies since Sunday night.
Grosse Ile officials previously said about 9-10 passengers were on board the boat when it capsized. All but two of the boaters were recovered by other boats shortly after the incident. Some of the boaters were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, officials said.
