Southpoint Church is celebrating 25 years of “winning Downriver to Christ,” kicking off a nearly month-long celebration beginning April 19, the date of its opening in Woodhaven High School on Easter Sunday, 1992. The church started with 257 people in attendance by inviting people over the phone. It grew to become a spiritual home for thousands of people over the years, with over 3,200 people being baptized. It is now one church in multiple locations with a campus in Trenton, another in Allen Park, and its most recent one meeting in Huron High School.
Founding and Lead Minister, Brett Kays, says that the church’s desire is to bless the community with “25 Days of Help.” Families and individuals will be encouraged to find one way to help others each day for 25 days in a row, using a list of ideas supplied by the church. Help could be as simple as taking cookies to a neighbor, leaving an extra big tip for the server, or paying for someone’s lunch. Groups in the church will take on larger services projects, which may include taking donuts for teachers at a school, hosting a cookout for a fire department, or serving at a charitable organization.
Special birthday elements are planned for weekend services April 22-23, and then the following weekend, April 29-30, the church is launching a message series, accompanied by a new website called www.OnlyGodCanHelp.com. Both are designed for people needing help with problems, hurts, habits, guidance and prayer. The website features helpful links, videos and resources pointing to answers and solutions for life's problems, showing how God is the source of true hope, healing, and happiness.
