Trenton Hospital Narrowly Misses Top CMS Rating
Nationally, the number of five-star hospitals slipped and the number of one-star hospitals increased.

There’s some good news and some not good news in the lastest comparison of hospitals from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Michigan has eight hospitals among the 242 nationally that earned the coveted five-star rating, which is based on patient responses to Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems surveys between Jan.1 and Dec. 31 of 2014, Healthcare Finance reports.

The number of lowest-ranked hospitals for patient experience doubled in the latest Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Hospital Compare list. The number of five-star facilities dropped.
Among the five-star hospitals is St. Joseph Mercy-Chelsea.

According to the data, 242 U.S. hospitals earned only one star, an increase from 102 one-star hospitals on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Hospital Compare list in July. Two Michigan hospital were among them — Henry Ford Hospital – Wyandotte and Sinai-Grace Hospital in Detroit.
Henry Ford Hospital-West Bloomfield and Oakwood Hospital-Southshore in Trenton earned four stars, and several others in the area earned three stars, according to the CMS. The three-star hospitals included Oakwood Hospital – Dearborn, Beaumont Hospital – Grosse Pointe, Beaumont Hospital – Royal Oak, Beaumont Hospital – Troy, Providence Hospital and Medical Centers in Southfield and Doctors’ Hospital Of Michigan in Pontiac,
Botsford Hospital in Farmington Hills was a two-star hospital.
The compilation is based on surveys patients are asked to complete about the quality of their experience upon dismissal. Hospitals with poor scores may receive lower reimbursement rates from Medicare.
