Trenton Residents Benefit from Women's Health Care Classic

Benefitting Breast Cancer Services at Beaumont Hospitals in Dearborn, Taylor, Trenton and Wayne

Drs. Harris, Birkhill, Wang, Songe & Assoc., PC. and Karen Colina Wilson Smithbauer will host the Women’s Health Care Classic (WHCC) on Monday, June 10, to benefit women’s breast care programs and services at Beaumont hospitals in Dearborn, Taylor, Trenton and Wayne. The event includes women-only golfing at Dearborn County Club, while both men and women will golf at TPC Michigan. In addition to golf, participants enjoy breakfast and lunch, cocktails, a strolling dinner and an awards program.

“We are proud to say that, throughout its 26-year history, the WHCC has raised more than $6.4 million for hospital programs in Wayne County,” said Karen Colina Wilson Smithbauer, Beaumont Health Foundation Board Member and Honorary Co-Chair. “It is rewarding to know our efforts positively impact the lives of so many - mothers, sisters, wives, aunts, nieces and best friends – all throughout our community.”

“In 2018, the WHCC raised more than $350,000 for women’s breast care programs and services,” added Donald Conn, M.D., Diagnostic Radiology, Beaumont and Honorary Co-Chair. “We were able to see these dollars at work as we toured the Beaumont Breast Care Center, Dearborn, and viewed a demonstration of the Invenia Automated Breast Ultrasound (ABUS) unit that was purchased with WHCC proceeds.”

Due to event philanthropy, Beaumont Breast Care Center in Dearborn is the first facility in the nation to install the technology. It is an alternative to other supplemental screening options for women with dense breast tissue and is the only FDA-approved ultrasound for breast cancer screening. Approximately 40 percent of women in the U.S. have dense breasts, which are identified by routine screening mammograms.

Beaumont’s Comprehensive Breast Care Program integrates cancer prevention, early detection, rapid diagnosis, leading-edge therapies, and a variety of support, education and community-support programs. Proceeds from this event will help those going through treatment with free mammograms, wigs, transportation, and nurse navigation services.
