Trenton Soroptimists' "Battle for Freedom: Detroit Style"
Hair and Fashion Show Fundraising Competition for Human Trafficking Awareness
Trenton Area Soroptimists Host Second “Battle for Freedom: Detroit Style”
The second “Battle for Freedom” hair and fashion show, held on January 27, was another success story. The Soroptimist International of Trenton Area’s fundraiser was held at Dearborn’s Ford Community and Performing Arts Center. Admission included appetizers, a wide assortment of basket raffles, a cash bar, and entertainment, in addition to the fashion show. Many attendees sat VIP tables.
The evening began with hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. The audience was educated about the first-hand experience of human trafficking survivor, Deborah Monroe, who shared her story. Greektown Hotbox entertained the large crowd with a saxophone and drum beat before the fashion show commenced. A DJ also kept the groove going all night.

This hair and fashion show was entitled “Detroit Style,” where salon stylists dressed, designed hair, and applied make up for the audience to vote for the best-styled models with a local flair. Participating salons included Aubrey of Riverview featuring music decades, Instinct Salon representing casino, Highland’s Monolo showcasing Eastern Market, Daybreak of Woodhaven displaying our sports teams, and Special Occasion Hair/Makeup by Tiffaney Payne glitzing Campus Martius at Christmas. The winner for the most votes was Salon Volume of Allen Park, whose graffiti theme earned the most cash.
Keeping with the “Detroit Style” theme, the raffle basket items were comprised of Michigan-based products and gifts, including autographed Piston memorabilia.
