West Bloomfield Observes Earth Day Friday, April 22.

West Bloomfield Parks and Recreation Commission has released its summer brochure, jam packed with events to keep your family busy.

WEST BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI – The West Bloomfield Township Parks & Recreation Commission has released its 46-page brochure detailing different programs that will be held for all ages this spring and summer.

The brochure outlines expanded summer camp offerings — eight full weeks for kids ages 4-13 — as well as swim lessons, summer concerts (including some especially for kids) special events like a mother-daughter tea and other nature programs.

Additionally, Parks & Rec Director Jennifer Tucker outlines important initiatives for Parks & Rec this year, including restoration of Marshbank Park, where invasive species threaten the area both ecologically and aesthetically.

One of the first events outlined in the brochure is Earth Day, to be celebrated from 3-6 p.m. Friday, April 22, at the nature Room and Outdoor Natural Play Area.

Activities and highlights include:

  • A make-your-own trail mix station, sponsored by Meijer
  • Recycled craft activities
  • Free tree seedlings will be offered to the first 50 children
  • Construction of "plarn" sleeping mats to be donated to the homeless
  • ​A Plants for Ecology information table on native plants
  • Henry Ford West Bloomfield Greenhouse activity station
  • Michigan State University Extension 4-H soil & sand activity station

The event is free, and no pre-registration is required.
