Refugee Rally Sunday Virtual Event Hosted by Pine Hill Church

A morning worship service and afternoon donation drop-off will bring into perspective the great struggles of refugees around the world

Pray for and participate in easing the plight of refugees during Pine Hill Congregational Church’s virtual Refugee Sunday worship service on September 13, 2020, at 10:00 am. J. Mike Mitchell, Co-Facilitator of the Waterford Refugee Welcome Alliance, will tell about the work of that organization and others that help support refugees who try to settle in southeastern Michigan and elsewhere. A liturgy written by area clergy will be used to bring into view the vulnerability of those who have to flee their homelands and are forcibly removed from their places of safety and security. The Exodus from Egypt will be examined as an example of displacement as a result of oppressive practices, as well as the mission and advocacy of Congregationalist Sarah Lanman Huntington on behalf of Native Americans and for women in the Middle East during an address by the Rev. Dr. Charles Packer. From 1:00-2:00 pm that day, anyone wishing to donate face masks and/or school supplies for area refugee families will be able to make a contactless drop-off in the parking lot of the church, at 4160 Middlebelt Road, West Bloomfield, Michigan 48323. There is no charge to attend the service, and to get a link to attend, please email drcapacker@gmail.com.
