WEST BLOOMFIELD, MI – A Metro Detroit bakery with locations in West Bloomfield Township and Oak Park is putting the fat in Fat Tuesday in what promises to be a most delicious way this year.

Peteet’s Famous Cheesecakes plans to offer a full range of fruit- and cheesecake-filled paczek — some liquor-infused — on Fat Tuesday, which falls on Feb. 9 this year, according to WWJ.

Paczki are traditional fried rounds of yeast dough eaten with unfettered abandon throughout eastern Europe on Fat Tuesday, the last day of feasting before Lent begins.

These pastries aren’t ordinary packzek. Bakery owner Patrick Peteet said he scored Hamtramck baker Borivoji Stameski’s secret recipe, along with paczek baking equipment, before Stameski retired and closed his Sunny Side Bakery.

In a statement, Peteet said he’s “honored that Borivoji passed the baton” to him.

“Using the new authentic recipe allows us to share an important part of this region’s culinary history with our customers, and continue the legacy of paczek artisan baking,” Peteet said. “While you can go anywhere to get paczki, only at Peteet’s Famous Cheesecake can you get cheesecake paczek.”

Peteet’s is taking pre-orders for the delicacies. You can find out how to do that on the website.
