Welcoming Waterford: A Listening Session
The Waterford Refugee Welcome Alliance is bringing together area residents to discuss what it means to be a welcoming community

What does it mean to be a welcoming community? What would welcoming look like, sound like, or feel like? Who is involved in the welcoming process? What can we do as individuals to be more welcoming?
The Waterford Refugee Welcome Alliance has been working for over four years to understand the needs of refugees who are trying to settle in new places after fleeing their homelands due to violence, oppression, and other dire circumstances. Key to making a difference in refugees’ lives is welcome.
On Sunday, February 21, 2021, from 3:00-5:00 pm, members of the Waterford Refugee Welcome Alliance want to hear from the wider community about what would make Waterford—and potentially other area municipalities—truly welcoming to refugees and others. Believing in the power of collective wisdom, there will be brief presentations made about the efforts of the WRWA organization and then turn to establish listening sessions in which participants may share their thoughts on the questions above and others. The hope is to discern ways to move Waterford and other communities forward in becoming increasingly welcoming to refugees and others.
